How are things going at the Wildman Academy?
Incredible, we've got more interest then ever for the upcoming May class. It's
really overwhelming considering we don't actively advertise for the school other
than having the website up. The current class is coming along very well.
Trying not to be biased, do you feel that having a full time training school
in the area hurts the territory, or hurts it?
There are two sides of thought to this. Some people believe that training too
many people in one area can take away from the paying crowd for shows when it
comes to people training that aren't serious enough to become marketable respectable
wrestlers. The way I see it is that as a trainer I do my very best to make sure
everyone that walks through the door at my school understands the hard work
and sacrifice that they have to make to be successful as wrestlers, both during
and after their training. Unfortunately not everyone is going to step up the
plate as they should after training, but those that don't take wrestling seriously
will eventually be weeded out. I also feel that now that this territory has
an abundance of wrestlers compared to the way things were 5-6 years ago it causes
everyone to have to step up their game, experienced and newer wrestlers. If
everyone in this area isn't making sure that they are staying in shape, keeping
a good head on their shoulders and improving themselves in the ring, there's
always 10 more guys that will gladly take their spot.
There has been a lot of talk going back to 2005
about Wrestling With Reality now, Wrestling Reality going on TV, tell us about
the process it has taken to get this far?
The process has been quite a journey that makes me proud of everyone involved.
Rick Doyle and Peter Smith have worked so hard kicking down doors to get this
project off the ground, I don't think anyone else could have accomplished what
they did in the amount of time we've been working on this project. It's been
two and a half years since the original idea for the project came up, and we've
taped 2 episodes, met with countless television executives and now finally have
signed a 5 year deal with the Fight Network. To accomplish what we have in that
small amount of time is no easy task, but thanks to the hard work put in by
Rick, Pete, and our new team that our director Greg Hemmings put together, there
is no doubt in my mind that we're about to embark on wrestling history.
What do you think about the roster that has been
picked for this tour?
I'm very pleased with the lineup we have for season one thus far. There's no
one on this roster that I can say doesn't completely deserve to be there. We
all bring something different to the table, both for the wrestling show, and
the documentary aspect.
Who do you think has the biggest chance to step
up and stand out on this tour?
I think the person that will probably stand out the most will be Krysta Lynn
Scott. Aside from being one of my top students, Krysta has a passion and drive
for wrestling, and life in general that I think will be a complete asset to
the show. I predict the world will fall in love with her.
What has been the hardest part of this whole
process for you?
I can't say I'd really consider any part of it particularly hard. Wrestling
Reality has been a blessing for me in every way. When you've been wrestling
for 10 years it's inevitable that you experience a lot of let downs. You get
excited about a particular opportunity and it ends up falling through or going
nowhere. Before Wrestling Reality I had stopped getting my hopes up about anything
with wrestling. This project has completely changed that, every day I get more
excited over the possibilities of where we can go with it.
Your thoughts on the name change from Wrestling
With Reality to Wrestling Reality
It's going to take some getting used to by everyone involved I think, but in
the end a name is a name.
You are the WWR Champion, with this up coming
Wrestling Reality tour are you still going to be champion or will things be
starting over?
I'm still the Wrestling Reality champion.
What are your thoughts on being on the same network
as TNA, NOAH & ROH do you see them as competition or would you like to work
with them in the future?
I don't see them as competition really. What we're doing with the documentary
side hasn't been done by anyone else, we're our own brand. On the wrestling
event side of things as for working with them in the future we'll see what happens
I guess, truth be told I never really thought about it. I think they will want
to work with us.
Your thoughts on Duke MacIsaac not being on this
tour?
I think it's unfortunate. Duke is a good friend and a great asset to any wrestling
company but some of the decisions that he's made as of late disassociated him
from Wrestling Reality. Hopefully we will see Duke involved with us again in
the near future.
Your thoughts on Mike Hughes as a part of WR?
Mike has been a good friend for years and I'm glad to have him on board, he
brings lots to the table and it would be terrible business decision to not have
him part of this project.
Will The Fight Network be airing the first two
episodes already finished?
No, we will be starting completely fresh for our first season. The 6 episodes
will all be taped during the upcoming tour. It'll air in a 2 hour time slot
this fall, one hour hour of the wrestling event, half hour of the documentary
show, and a half hour of shoot interviews.
Do you think the explosion in popularity of
Mix Marital Arts is going to hurt the wrestling business?
On a small level maybe, but as a whole I don't think so. Were hoping that Wrestling
Reality will open peoples eyes and make them realize what we go threw on a daily
basis is real and to show them that it's extremely hard work to be in this profession.
It's not all "Fake" and glitz and glammer like most people like to
think. I truly believe that we can put this sport back on the map with Wrestling
Reality.
Any closing comments?
I just want to take a minute here and thank everyone involved for working so
hard on this project thus far. Our whole team is simply amazing. I am so greatful
to be part of this project and I am excited to get started on the production
of Wrestling Reality "season one".
